Beaked sedge is a coarse sedge that grows in fens, wet meadows, and marshes on sedge peat, sphagnum peat, muck, and wet mineral soil. It spreads by rhizomes and forms small open patches. The fruiting spikes are big, plump, and bottle-brush-shaped.
